The Armagh International Road Race 2024 was held recently and 56 pupils from St John's signed up to participate across 8 races on a cold wet night. These miserable conditions didn't hinder our pupils however with many achieving top ten positions with a couple finishing in the top 3! Furthermore St John's were the winners of the small schools competition, and finished in third place overall!! A great achievement by all competitors! Race 1 saw Connor Hughes (P2), Frankie McKernan, Callen O'Rawe, Bobby Scott, Pat Treanor, Shea Moynes and Lorcan Donaghue step up with Bobby Scott chasing down the first 2 boys to finish third and claim his hard earned trophy. Race 2 saw Caolan Curry, Eoghan Connolly and Connor Hughes (P4) take to the line to complete the 400m distance before Tara McKernan, Lily Woods, Jenny Loughran Molly Rice and Rosie McConnell competed in race 3 with Rosie McConnell coming in in 10th position and receiving a trophy for her efforts. Race 4 had Meabh Doherty, Lottie O'Neill, Annie Parkes and Rosie McCann compete in the final 400m race. Races 6 and 7 were the most hotly contested races of the night for St Johns with 11 boys in race 6, Eoghan Kerr, Fionn Mallon, Casey MCann, Fionn McKernan, Caodhan Mone, Oliver Corr, James McCaffrey, Calum McKee, Oisin Curry, Aidan McKernan and Conor Mallon and 10 girls in race 7, Eabha Connolly, Bobbi O'Neill, Ruby Hamilton, Ella Hughes, Amelia-Rose Mackle, Emma McGeown, Mia McNamee, Erin O'Rawe, Molly Parkes and Isla Scott all covering the 1400m course and competing in very big fields with 195 in race 6 and 161 in race 7. Bobbi O'Neill and Isla Scott were the trophy winners in their race with Bobbi finishing 3rd and Isla finishing in 7th. Race 8 saw Jarlath Doherty, Matthew Loughran, Seaghdha-Daire McQuade Jonny Gormley and Darragh Rice take to the line, with Grace Hamilton the only representative from St John's competing in race 9.
